About us
Azalea is a team at the Universitat Politècnica de València that designs and builds real sustainable housing prototypes, generation after generation.
Origin
Azalea formed in 2017 within the Makers UPV community, functioning as a spin-off, with the initial goal of competing in Solar Decathlon Europe 2019.
Institutional affiliation
Azalea is part of Universitat Politècnica de València's ADGE Design Area, within Generación Espontánea, UPV's program for multidisciplinary student teams.

Azalea founded

Barraca — Solar Decathlon Europe
The founding project Barraca wins 1st prize in Architecture, 2nd in Energy Efficiency and 3rd in Engineering and Construction, and is recognized as the best Spanish team in the competition.

Escalà — Solar Decathlon Europe
Azalea develops Escalà, a sustainable housing project for El Cabanyal, and competes in Wuppertal (Germany) in 2022, the only Spanish team to reach the final.

Xaloc at COP28
Work linked to Xaloc, per the team's own account, wins the Fundación Biodiversidad's Climate Generation competition and is presented at COP28 (Dubai). Available press coverage does not explicitly confirm the link to Azalea.
- 2025
Veïnat at Energy Global Expo & Congress
Per Azalea's own official LinkedIn channel, the team presents Veïnat at Valencia's Energy Global Expo & Congress (November 2025). The event itself is independently confirmed; Azalea's specific participation is, for now, the team's own account.

Veïnat — current project
Azalea develops Veïnat, a bioclimatic office and emergency housing, in its third project phase.

Construction in Chiva
Veïnat's construction begins in September 2026, with target completion in early April 2027 — the two dates confirmed by the team.
